Spanish, M.A.


Learning Outcomes


  • Students will demonstrate advanced linguistic competence at the graduate level in Spanish both orally and in writing.
  • Students will produce pieces of original research written at an advanced linguistic and stylistic level in Spanish.
  • Students will conduct class discussions and presentations on the subjects of literature, culture and literary criticism of Spanish and Spanish-American cultures.
  • Students will demonstrate by different methods (conversations, interviews, research) that they understand the mechanics of the Spanish language in phonetics, structure, relations to other languages, and variations.
  • Students will teach their own class beginning the second or third semester of their pedagogical training.
  • Students will be able to teach first level Spanish grammar, listening and writing skills.
  • Students will analyze texts theoretically and critically with respect to their arguments and the cultural contexts within which they were composed.
  • Students will demonstrate reading knowledge in an additional foreign language.
